Plus size fashion has come a long way since then. We have so many options! But we still have a bit of a ways to go.
The sad truth is this: most designers don’t cater to women over a US size 10. Sometimes, even when they offer larger clothing they still are not designed for us, which can make for an awkward fit. If you’re anything like me you love a lot of the styles you see but have trouble finding a variety of unique pieces in your size. There’s more to the plus-sized experience than just fashion though.
I’m interested in many of the same things as other women, but we are not a monolith. I'd like to be represented. I want to see [and highlight] people who look like me living life boldly.
We’re confident. We’re bold. We’re comfortable in our skin. We’re DOPE & UNAPOLOGETIC about who we are. Here you can be yourself and connect with other people who get it.
EMBODI Collective is THE place to come for all things indie, plus size and dope!
Hey, Embodi Beauties, I'm Tiffanie, the curator here at Embodi Collective!
I grew up around artists/makers. My mother was always drawing, painting and sewing. Both of my grandmothers were also seamstresses at one time or another and I spent a lot of time with them. So it was no surprise when I grew up to love making things. I took that passion on a bit of a journey, going on to study interior architectural design and most recently trying my hand at fashion design.
As a plus size teen I had a hard time finding clothes that fit me. Not that I couldn’t find my size, per se, but I could never find anything in my size that also fit my personal style. Much of the time I was settling in some way. If clothes fit my body well, they didn’t match my style. If clothes were affordable, they were poor quality. If they were high quality they were expensive and were designed for older women.
